Our Story
Torch Capital Partners was founded in 2008 by Dan Stewart. Prior to founding Torch, Stewart was one of the founding partners of NESI Energy Marketing, non-regulated natural gas marketing and trading subsidiary of NiSource, Inc., a fortune 500 company, with transmission and distribution assets in the Gulf coast, New England, and the Midwest. Stewart's firm grew to $1 billion in revenue during the maturation and risk management phase of the industry's growth.
After a successful exit, Stewart bought a vacation home on Torch Lake in Northern Michigan. He began working as a commercial real estate broker and eventually became the owner and partner at a brokerage firm in Ann Arbor. After years of representing both owners and buyers in the sale and acquisition of real estate, he began buying commercial real estate with some high net worth friends, and Torch Capital Partners was born. The results were outstanding.
Since then, Torch has acquired industrial, retail, office, land, and multifamily properties throughout Michigan. Today, Torch is poised to scale its investment volume, with a keen focus on acquiring suburban retail and multitenant industrial.
